Oblivion 2013

Finally, managed to catch a movie last night. Was so tired with the work, watching a good movie could offer me the relaxation that I longed for although a short one.

Andrew and I have never heard anything about “Tom Cruise has a new movie this year”. When we saw the trailer in the cinema few weeks ago (when we went to watch GI Joe), we were so surprised. Surprised that Tom Cruise has a new movie, also surprised that we’ve not heard or read anything about “Oblivion“. I couldn’t help but felt “oblivious”. :) How apt.

Of course, anything with Tom Cruise in, is a must-watch for me. :) For Andrew, the director is good enough to lure him in, it was the same director who directed Tron: Legacy. Just the trailer alone already showed quite a number of similarities to Tron.

The simplicity of colors, costumes, weapons and technology in the movie, is truly outstanding. Everything is so simple and clean but amazingly hi-tech. The beautiful hi-tech resident sits amongst the ruined and damaged city creates such a strong contrast. I asked myself, do I want to live in such a beautifully and nicely built house and sacrifice the earth, or live in the nature of the earth without the technology? Well, must we sacrifice the nature for the advancement of technology? Must we also sacrifice the usefulness of technology to protect the nature? Can’t we have both?

Sorry for the side track, back to the movie. :) Same director, same rules. Love the colors of the costumes/uniform, they’re so clean and uniform. In Tron we have those lighted race cars and bikes, in Oblivion there’s drones. :)

Thumbs up to Tom Cruise! Without his good performances, I honestly think that the movie wouldn’t be so great. He could make the boring scenes bearable and needed. Not because of his looks (of course he is handsome), it’s his ability to make you pay attention and listen to him. You just can’t deny his talent.

The movie was progressing pretty slow but not boring. The director, Joseph Kosinski is smart in keeping the audience suspended. Revealing the truth bit by bit, left you doubting what you’re thinking, wondering what the end will be and wanting to stay until the end. It’s pretty much a romance story, but not lacking the action too. I didn’t know sci-fi movie can be so simple and “clean”. The visual effects are so neatly done.

Surprisingly, this is one sci-fi movie that I asked less questions. I didn’t find anything in the movie that I don’t understand. It is so easy to understand and interpret if you pay attention.

Oblivion is a great movie if you’re a sci-fi fans. If you’re a romantic, you’ll love this too. For me, I love it. Cool story, great backgrounds, great actors, exciting action, pretty visuals…… Need I say more? :)

G.I. Joe: Retaliation

How long since I last went to the cinema and watched a movie? My goodness, that was before Chinese New Year! New record! I don’t know why and what we are busy with, Andrew and I just can’t seem to have the time for movie even during weekends. Two weeks ago, Andrew’s colleague gave him some TGV complimentary tickets, we went to the cinema twice and there wasn’t any good movies on. Until G.I. Joe came.

When we saw the trailer of G.I. Joe: Retaliation last year, we thought “whoa! cool!” However, 30 minutes into the movie and I felt disappointed.

Characters weren’t well introduced, most of them were there in the movie for show. The main actor in The Rise of Cobra, Duke (Channing Tatum) died too soon in this sequel. Storyline is weak. Snake Eyes didn’t get to show off much of his ninja skills. Storm Shadow looked so weak. If Lady Jaye is there to show how pretty she is, I seriously wish the director would get someone who is really pretty and has the character, like Megan Fox. This Lady Jaye just doesn’t have that look. The Rock is again the muscle guy that can’t act. :( G.I. Joe is famous for its high-tech weapons and gadgets, but we don’t see many of that in the movie!

What is wrong with the sequel? :( There were even a few scenes which I honestly think that they are stupid. Also, there were jokes that didn’t even sound funny. When someone pushed the crates and they tumbled on Storm Shadow and he fell, I was like, “what the…… He is a ninja, c’mon! How could a ninja get hit by crates???!!!”

If you’re not a fan of G.I. Joe, you may skip this movie. If you’re looking for action movie, this isn’t your cup of tea either. If you’re a fan of Bruce Willis, please choose his other movies to watch, don’t waste your time.

Honestly, this movie didn’t make a big impression on me. I won’t even watch it for second time. The first movie was so impressive, but the second just failed. Sigh.

IDIOTS

Do you believe that the more you deal with idiots, the more likely you will become one too?

What do you do when you’re surrounded by idiots?

I still can’t seem to handle idiots well. I still get agitated by them. Especially when they do idiotic stuff that really push me to the edge. ARGH! Someone said don’t argue with idiots, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with it. It is easier said than done. :(

Recently, I start to feel like I am an idiot too. :(

If I were any smarter, I would have gotten out of this hell hole and stop complaining.

My heart is singing,

Somebody save me
Let your warm hands break right through it
Somebody save me
I don’t care how you do it, just stay, stay
C’mon, I’ve been waiting for you.

When will my superman come to my rescue? T__T

Cold War 2012.

Skyfall for Daniel Craig

:D I love Daniel Craig for a reason…… His eyes. I think he could just hypnotise me by asking me to look into his eyes for 5 seconds. Hahahahaha. Look at his blue eyes, you’ll understand. He has got this charm too that you just can’t take your eyes off him in a movie.

So, how can I miss Skyfall then? I’ve been bugging Andrew since the day it came to the cinema, busy with work and stuff, I told him I MUST watch this by hook or by crook. Hahaha.

I’ve heard a lot of people saying that they’re very disappointed with the movie. I’m surprised. The movie, to me, turned out to be great. This time, it required more concentration from the audiences than the previous 2 movies. However, I don’t think it’s that bad to the extent that it’s boring or dull.

Action scenes were here and there, not too intense but sufficient for a James Bond movie. It was more like “getting smart” with the villains than the merely physical fighting and battling through. As all of us know it, all the previous James Bond movies relied on a lot of gadgets. However in Skyfall, you wouldn’t see many of those gadgets flying all over the place. Just a few of them are impressive enough to make you go “WOW”. Most importantly, this time you’d get to see a more brainy James Bond. :)

James Bond’s background has always been a mystery, but finally we get to see it in Skyfall. So, James Bond is just another troubled kid like most of us. Hahahahaha……

The movie has a different twist at the end. Never would I expect that Skyfall was actually a place. Before I went to the movie, I thought it could be about some terrorist attack using some kind of airborne weapon, hence the name of “skyfall”. Little did I know I was so wrong. :P I find that it was a bit lame though to use the name of a place for a movie title. It does sound nice and mysterious, but lame.

Another twist is I never expected M to die! Oh dear…… The graceful and yet fierceful M died! T__T That is tragic. However, am glad to see Ralph Fiennes as the new M. :D He looks so old now, I was smitten by his charm too once upon a time. Hahahaha.

Andrew and I love the movie. We love the fact that the James Bond played by Daniel Craig, is more human compared to all those previous James Bond. This James Bond, is scarred. As always, we believe hero is made, rather than born.

If you’re a James Bond’s fan, you shall not miss this. Whether it’s good or not, you’ll not want to miss this. If you’re not, you’ll find this boring. If you’re looking for excitement and action like The Expendables 2 and Bourne Legacy, you shall not waste your money on Skyfall.

P.S.: In the cinema, I was sitting beside this group of young people. When the scene showed MI6 Headquarters with the subtitle “HQ – MI6″, the “boy” (early twenties perhaps) next to me said this loudly to his friend, “M-Sixteen!!!” I nearly lost control and burst out laughing!!!!!!!!!! I was covering my mouth and laughing on Andrew’s shoulder!!! M-16 for goodness sake!!!! Clearly, he isn’t a fan of James Bond. Or perhaps, he doesn’t even know about James Bond. No one would ever think it was referring to M16 although the alphabets do look like it. I still couldn’t get over it, I laugh whenever I think of it. M-Sixteen!!!! Good one BOY!

Liam Neeson. Taken Too (2).

*Took me 2 weeks to finish this post! My mind is not at its usual state, few things happened lately and work is crazy and messy. It’s very difficult to think and write at this point in time.*

I guess it is only right to say, those who have seen Taken, would have jumped with excitement when they know there would be Taken 2. I am of no exception. :) Furthermore, I’m a fan of Liam Neeson, how can I miss this one? :P When I saw the trailer of Taken 2, I’ve already told Andrew that “I MUST WATCH THIS”! LOL!

Some of you may not know why I have this strong admiration for Liam Neeson (old man), it all thanks to his VOICE. I’ve mentioned in my blog here many times that I have a thing for men with sexy and husky voice (not that kind of old grandpa’s voice OK!). Liam Neeson’s voice, unbeatable! If he ever says to me, “let’s run away with me, Ashley”, trust me, I would. LOL! Just imagining of how my name would sound like from him is already making me weak at my knees! Wuahahahahahahahaha…… Of course, not just his voice, his acting is great too. :P

Ok, back to the movie. If you’ve not seen Taken, you don’t know what you’re missing. I concluded that Taken 2 was great, but Taken was even better! I believe a lot of people would agree with me. Taken was filled with back to back suspense and action, there was never an empty window that would leave you feeling boring. I was holding my breath every minute when I watched Taken. It was so exciting and enjoyable to see Liam Neeson kicking all the bada**. You would want to glue your eyes to the screen until the movie ends and you would want to know so much if he got his daughter back.

Taken 2, nice. When I saw Liam Neeson got taken too, I was like, “those people are idiots to want to mess with him”. Hahahaha. Well, I wonder what the story would be if his daughter was taken too.

In the movie, other characters were pretty forgettable. The movie focused so much on Liam Neeson, almost made him like the new Jason Bourne. I was so impressed with the character he played, Bryan Mills. Just like I was impressed with Jason Bourne, only that Mills is much older. :P

If you’re looking for a lot of explosives, gunfires and blood, you would not get a lot of them in Taken 2. If you do not like the idea of Taken, do not even bother to watch Taken 2. If you do not even know or like Liam Neeson, this is definitely not for you. If you’re watching it hoping to just get entertained, yes you will but don’t expect it to be extremely entertaining like The Expendables 2. If you’re a fan of Liam Neeson, you should watch it no matter how, nuff said. :P

Love this specific conversation between Bryan Mills and his daughter:

Mills: Can you shoot?
Kim: No.
Mills: Then drive.

LOL!!!!! >o<

The Bourne Legacy – Not So Bourne

Okay, this is going to be the last of the movies marathon I had last week. :P

When I saw the beginning of the trailer, I thought it was some other movie. Jeremy Renner suddenly got so HOT after his role in The Avengers. When I heard “Jason Bourne was just the tip of the iceberg”, I went “WHAT?!” O__O Jeremy Renner, is another Outcome, not Jason Bourne.

Andrew and I have been the fans of Jason Bourne, we’ve never missed any of the Bourne series. Firstly, Matt Damon played so well as Jason Bourne. Secondly, all the fighting and action scenes were so real-life, it makes you start thinking that all this could well be real and happening. Then, it was the pulling factor – they successfully created a story that makes you always want to know more and what’s going to happen next. The hide and run turned into a kill and pursue, it’s almost like telling us to face our darkest moments before they get to you. Andrew and I also like the song that appeared in every Bourne series.

I was having mixed feelings with Jason Bourne gone. It’s a Bourne movie, how can it be without Jason Bourne? This is like a James Bond movie without James Bond. However, am glad to see Jeremy Renner as the new Outcome. He always has this look that makes him look like a good guy and yet can be bad and vice versa. The same thing that Matt Damon has. Now, here’s why Matt Damon quit playing Jason Bourne.

The Bourne Legacy was one of our many MUST-SEE movies. Guess what, we managed to grab two 2D tickets at RM13 only!!! Thanks to RHB promotions. :) Now we prefer 2D as compared to normal. 2D means high definition, everything is so crisp and clear.

The story of The Bourne Legacy is rather, simple and boring. An Outcome agent went loose, all of a sudden he is on the run and everybody is trying to kill him. If it wasn’t for the action and fights, I would have yawned. Things are pretty predictable. A good show anyway, simply because Jeremy Renner played it well. You gotta give credits to him. Nice try Renner. :)

The character played by Edward Norton, sigh…… What? Who did I just say? Oh, Edward Norton…… He is a great actor, but it’s a shame that his role in the movie is so forgettable. Still remember the lady in The Bourne Ultimatum, Pamela Landy (Joan Allen)? See, I could still remember her! But Ed Norton, he is more like a dog barking orders to others in the movie. I don’t get the point that they were trying to tell me that he is the brain of the operation and he IS smart. I just simply don’t feel it. Sigh…… What a waste.

I must say the previous Bourne movies were better. Honestly, if they changed the movie title to something else, I would have regarded it differently, perhaps higher and better. It’s one of the Bourne series, the expectation is there. I expected a better and interesting plot. From the first to the last minute of the movie, I practically correctly predicted everything. To me, this is the lowest standard of the four.

This is another example of, the movie doesn’t live up to the hype of trailer.

Wish we could see Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross together in the future. Andrew said, “it’s the trend now, reunion of everyone, like The Avengers”. :D

Now, this is the song that appeared in every Bourne movies. Andrew and I love it. :)

Total Recall 2012

I know, I know…… Some of you may already have that question at your lips/fingertips, waiting for the right moment to ask, “since when you become a movie critic, Ashley?”

I’m not a movie critic, or movie reviewer or whatever you may call it. It’s just that, I LOVE watching movies. Going to the cinema and catch a good movie is considered therapeutic to me. Writing about what I have watched is a way for me to remember how I felt there and then about the movies. Sometimes after I read again on how I felt about a certain movie, I end up watching the movie a second time, or third time. Also, this little brain of mine seems to often forget what movies I’ve watched. To have a record of the movies I’ve seen, seems like a better idea than keeping all the ticket stubs. :)

I’ve missed out chances of catching a few good movies in the cinema. Last week, it was the payback time. :D Andrew and I managed to catch a few good ones consecutively! Ahhh…… Do you know that it is a bliss to be able to go to the cinema for a movie? :)

When I saw the trailer of Total Recall, I was stunned. I told Andrew, “seriously?! They did a remake of Arnold’s Total Recall!” I was excited and sceptical at the same time. Excited with the cast, Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale, this is something I don’t want to miss. Sceptical with the story, the backbone of the original story is there, but the environment is different. How could you remake a movie in a different environment? Wouldn’t it change the course of the story?

Colin Farrell looked so young in this movie, is he really that young? Or perhaps those other movies made him looks old. You gotta admit that he’s a good actor despite his personal life. I first know him from Phone Booth, Andrew was the one told me, “you gotta see this poor fella stuck in the phone booth being played around by another man”. Then, he just got more and more famous.

Okay, back to the movie. The story is a little different from the original, set in a new background, but the essence of the story is still there. I must say, impressive. Love the new age and city, and all the technologies…… There were a few scenes that even got me went “WOW”. I can safely say that it is better than Total Recall of 12 years ago. And Colin Farrell is definitely more handsome than Arnold Schwarzenegger. :P

Sci-fi fans, this movie is your thing. For those who don’t like sci-fi story, you are going to have a tough time understanding the story behind. Required lots of imaginations. :) Any lacking in imaginations and interests, will definitely make you go “huh?” Don’t expect interesting dialogues or conversations in the movie, you won’t find it. :P Just enjoy the thrills that a sci-fi movie can bring. :)

The Expendables 2 – ALL (OLD) Stars

2 years ago, I regretted of watching The Expendables. I was so disappointed with it.

2 years later, now, I enjoyed watching The Expendables 2!!! It was great! More kick-a** scenes this time around, and more humours. All of a sudden, it has become such an entertaining movie! I was surprised that I enjoyed it! I went it the cinema with a sceptical mind, I came out with a big smile and was talking non-stop about the movie. :D Well, I must say it is because of the director. The Expendables was directed by Sylvester Stallone, whilst The Expendables 2 was directed by Simon West! The director of Con Air! Now, you know why the different of standard between The Expendables 1 and 2? :P

I must say, Arnold Schwarzenegger stole the lime light whenever he appeared on the screen. How can we all forget Mr. Terminator’s all-time-famous line? “I’ll be back”! Andrew and I were laughing hysterically when he first popped his head out of the truck and said, “I’m BACK!” That was totally classic!

I’m glad to see that finally Jason Statham is kicking some a**es seriously!!! Oh boy, he looks more charming than he did in Expendables 1. Dolph Lundgren on the other hand, didn’t leave much impression. He was more like a muscle-man without a brain in the movie. Sigh…… Can’t believe he’s in his 50′s too. Still remember his best-known character in Universal Soldier, which I’ve watched countless of times because my dad loves that film. He was one of the most sough-after action movie stars back then!

There’s one more hot bod from the Universal Soldier, Jean-Claude Van Damme! How can we ever miss him out from the action heroes list?! (Thanks to my dad, that I get to know all these great action movie stars and movies.) When Van Damme appeared, Andrew was surprised and whispered, “VAN DAMME!” Hahahahaha…… A “loud” whisper. Both of us didn’t expect to see him in this movie! We didn’t catch even a glimpse of the trailer before, so we were surprised. Chuck Norris surprised us even further! Are you kidding me?! CHUCK NORRIS!!!

I still love Bruce Willis the most. :D No doubt he’s old, but he is still looking good and charming! Love his “botak head”! Hehehe…… He is one of the examples of the-older-they-get-the-better-they-look! I was laughing so loud when he replied to Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie, “you’ve been back enough! NOW I’ll be back!” LMAO!!!

The movie, was totally entertaining. With lots of humours and classic lines from all those classic action movies…… Unforgettable. Andrew said, this is like “The Avengers”, only that they’re real human and older. :)

You definitely don’t want to miss this “reunion” if you’re a huge fan of all those action movie stars. However, don’t expect a good story or anything from it. Honestly, the story sucks. I still enjoyed it, simply because of all the great actions and actors! I’ll still give it a 2-thumbs up. :)

There’s a young man in the movie which I find rather familiar, the voice, the face…… He looks like someone…… Or I’ve seen him in some other movie before…… Google-d it when I was home, ahhhhhh…… No wonder I feel the familiarities…… Liam Hemsworth, Chris Hemsworth’s brother!!! But, he also looks a tad bit like Hayden Christensen.

The Dark Knight Rises

A much anticipated movie, the last Batman from Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale, with Anne Hathaway as the cat woman, then the Aurora shooting…… A bad note for the movie……

The Batman in Christopher Nolan’s eyes is a dark one. Of all the batman series, I somehow enjoyed the one created by Nolan and portrayed by Christian Bale. Batman seems to be so human and vulnerable, just like any one of us, and any one of us can be the Batman if we stand up to fight.

The Dark Knight Rises, 4 years after The Dark Knight, such a long wait. It is worth the wait though, an amazing movie. The movie was long, 2 hours and 45 minutes! However, never did Andrew and I feel the time passing. We were so engrossed in the conversations and everything in the movie. It’s rare to see such a lengthy movie without feeling bored at some point of time. It was a really great movie, a great end to the series. I would say the most flesh and blood Batman of thus far. Even though Gotham city is not real, Nolan somehow managed to make it more real life and I can relate to it easier. The previous Batman from other directors, always gave me the feelings that “I’m watching a show”. However, The Dark Knight Rises made me believed that everything in there could happen in our life. Hats off to Nolan.

Anne Hathaway looks so beautiful in the movie! She fits perfectly fine as a Cat woman! I think after Michelle Pfeiffer, she’s the next one that really fits the character so well. Whenever she appeared, my attention would be on her. She’s so attractive.

I nearly dropped my jaw when I know it was Tom Hardy who played Bane in the movie! The not-so-tall, good looking, hot bod Tom Hardy???? My goodness! Bane was so BIG in the movie! He was like double the size of Tom Hardy, how could it possibly be him???? And yes, it is him. No wonder I find the voice so familiar. Seriously, I really wonder how they did it…… One moment they’re so fit and slim, the next they’re so BIG and fat……

Love the twist of the story at the end, who would have thought…… At the end, Bane has my sympathy.

Two thumbs up for The Dark Knight Rises. Hopefully, we will be seeing Robin soon. :)

Snow White and the Huntsman

Didn’t intend to watch Snow White and the Huntsman, but MIB3 and Madagascar 3 were at a later time (we didn’t want to wait that long), Brave only has 3D and Andrew doesn’t like that, and both of us are not really interested in Abraham Lincoln. So, Snow White was the only one left and I would love to see Charlize Theron as the evil queen. :) RM14 for 2 tickets, cincai lah (anything goes).

Again, Charlize Theron is beautiful!!! She was such an evil queen but she looked so beautiful in the movie! So beautiful I think I breathed in a few times when her pretty face appeared up-close. Andrew who hardly compliments also agreed that she is beautiful! Hard to believe that Charlize Theron could look so evil with that pretty face.

As for Kristen Stewart, I’m sorry to say that I have no love for her. Blame it on Twilight. I’ve seen the first movie of Twilight and that’s it, I hate it. Hate the fact that she was like reciting from the script with her lousy acting, Robert Pattinson was no better either. I don’t think that they’re handsome and pretty as what others have been saying. Give me a break. I really wonder why they picked Kristen Stewart to be Snow White. Sigh…… Her acting in Snow White is not getting any better too. I couldn’t feel her “passion” when she was giving a supposedly passionate and encouraging speech, her role as Snow White has not moved me at all. I couldn’t believe that I felt nothing for Snow White! SIGH…… Side track a little: Andrew told me Kristen Stewart is the highest paid Hollywood actress now. I was like, what the…… Just because of Twilight?????!!!!! Ish……

Was surprised when I saw Chris Hemsworth, didn’t know that he was the huntsman! The movie poster definitely doesn’t do him any justice. Anyway, still prefer his look as Thor. :D Don’t forget Sam Claflin! I was having that deja vu thing in the cinema, find him looking familiar. Then, was watching Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides for the second time on TV, and I went “THAT’S HIM!” Sam Claflin, William in Snow White is also the pirate who fell in love with the mermaid in Pirates of the Caribbean! Hmm…… I must admit he looked better in Snow White, what a candy to the eye. :P

If the movie didn’t have Charlize Theron as the queen, I would say it’s a bad movie. Charlize Theron somehow lightened up the whole movie with her evil role. Also, the dwarves were so real! Spotted another Pirates of the Caribbean’s cast in Snow White, Black Beard is Beith the dwarf! The story, Snow White, supposed to have some romance element, but I seriously didn’t feel it. Kristen Stewart just couldn’t get the message across, she looked so “life-less” in her expressions. Sigh……

You gotta watch this movie to admire Charlize Theron’s beauty and her evilness. Hats off to her acting too. If you don’t like Charlize Theron, you can forget about watching this movie. Other than Queen Ravenna, the rest of them are so forgettable.

Prometheus 2012

Whenever there’s something related to Greek mythology, I’d get attracted to it. The name, Prometheus, is the reason I watched the movie! When I saw the trailer, with that name, I told Andrew, “I must watch this!” LOL!!! :P

They named the spaceship “Prometheus” just because they wanted the ship to bring back what they believed would bring human another new phase of life. My goodness, “Prometheus” is a great name (with great story) and they used it for such a lame excuse???? I can’t bring myself to agree to that, but hey, it’s a movie, Ashley. I felt like I was conned by the movie’s title. *Cries* I thought with that kind of name, there should be a great reason behind it too. T__T

Anyway, the movie is, well, I won’t say that it’s great, it’s just some average sci-fi movie.  I enjoyed the visual effects and all that. Honestly, the movie makes you believe that those things are actually real and practical. I had a great time watching Charlize Theron too! Gosh, she is so beautiful and gorgeous! So, so, so beautiful that even I as a woman couldn’t take my eyes off her. I was surprised to see Michael Fassbender, didn’t realise it was him when I saw the trailer. Somehow, he looked old in the movie. Perhaps his character required him to look a tad old and thin. Still prefer his look in X-Men: First Class.

The story? Hmm…… Lengthy at times, sometimes boring, most of the times were expected, and there wasn’t much of humour. There are many parts which I seriously think the director thought we were some kind of fools. I have so many questions after watching the movie. Why the cylinder that David brought back to the ship doesn’t have the alien? How the hell did he know which one has the liquid?  What happened to those alien creatures later? Where did they go? Don’t they grow? What is that statue doing in there? Why did David want to kill Charlie? What was Vickers doing on the ship other than just giving orders? Her character served no purpose at all since David could well be doing everything.

Ok, ok, it’s just a movie, I probably think too much. Not a bad movie if you look at it from the sci-fi point and it is from Ridley Scott. However, it has a questionable story, could have been better. Did I enjoy the movie? Yes. If you’re into sci-fi and alien, this is your thing.

Unknown 2011

Now, I fell in love with Fox Movie Premium channel on Astro. :D Oh, don’t forget HBO too. I can watch movies all day and night!!! Guess what, I watched 4 movies last Sunday!!! :D

When it comes to Liam Neeson, it can’t be wrong. Nothing can be wrong with Liam Neeson in the movie. His acting skills can make you believe anything that he said in the movies is real. :D Whenever he speaks, I melt. Aiyoooo…… His voice!!!! I can’t recall since when I become so hopelessly in love with Liam Neeson, I only know that he can “kill” people with his eyes and voice. :P No doubt he is old now, but he aged charmingly. Just like Harrison Ford. :) Still remember K-19: The Widowmaker, seeing Harrison Ford and him appearing in the same movie, divine!

Ok, back to the movie Unknown. Wanted to watch it in the cinema last year but couldn’t make it. Couldn’t find it on PPS, been waiting for Andrew to help me to download it and last week, I saw the trailer on HBO and they would be showing it on Sunday night! I was so happy and I kept reminding myself that I must not forget. WEEEE!!! I did not forget!!!

Unknown was great, how the director spent time explaining the characters impressed me . I would be lost if I wasn’t introduced to the characters well, seeing Neeson lost his identity was already a confusing and mysterious one. The director is very clever in keeping you suspended, and yet making you wanting to find out why. You would be so well-behaved during the movie and your eyes would literally glue to the TV, you wouldn’t want to miss a single scene! Although there wasn’t many action scenes, the mysteries and dialogues were enough to keep you occupied. :P

I must say I was fooled a few times. I was so focusing on wanting to know WHY those people stole Martin Harris’ identity, it was such a surprise to know that Martin Harris himself was the assassin! I again was surprised when Jürgen the private investigator committed suicide to protect his client!

Everything was so well played and set, the truth was only to be revealed near the end of the movie. When you thought that would be it, the snake is out and THE END but hey, it wasn’t finished yet! That was brilliant!

However, it is weird that why Neeson at the end had a sudden change of heart, that he didn’t want to be an assassin anymore? Who did they work for? Weren’t those people his colleagues? Why did they want to kill Neeson after the accident? Weren’t they a team? Why didn’t they save Neeson after the crash? Sigh…… Guess I’ll never have the answers. Hmm…… Somehow, I found a little bit of similarity of Bourne Identity in Unknown, the backbone of the story is pretty similar. :) How nice if Unknown were to be in drama series. :D

The Avengers 2012

Aiyoyo!!! The long-awaited movie is finally here!!! I’ve been waiting for so long!!! FINALLY, but was busy with work and stuff, and everybody is like “fighting” to watch the movie “first”, the cinemas are always full! Last night, went to Festival City and saw that MBO cinema is now open. Andrew and I wanted to see if the cinema is good and we can come here in the future instead of going to TGV KLCC where parking is more expensive. Bought the 2D tickets at RM13 per person. 2D simply means it is high definition.

Went in the cinema, my gosh, so small!!!!!!!!!!! I have to emphasize, it is bloody small! The screen, is tiny!!!! *Bangs her head* The screen is so small compared with TGV or GSC, this is like a mini cinema!!! You can’t even call it a cineplex! The seat, oh dear, it is so straight, and the screen is so high above!!!! I have to lift my head so that my eye level matches the screen! Terrible, horrible, vegetable!  So tiring…… :( Both Andrew and I agreed, that we shall not come back. Hahahahaha……

Pardon my lousy drawings. :P Just to show you how it was.

Back to The Avengers. It was a great movie!!! Totally enjoyed it!!! Ironman is the hero of all heroes! He didn’t disappoint us. In fact, Ironman kind of like stole the show of everyone. I love the scene where Ironman fought with Thor. Human in a suit against a god! Real yet fantasy, so raw and rough. :D Also, love the new robot thingy on the roof top of Stark building that took off Ironman’s suit while he walked! Damn cool man!

Captain America still looked macho and charming and cool. He is not as genius as Tony Stark, but he certainly has more knowledge in fighting a war and strategies. Of all the superheroes (not including Natasha Romanoff and Hawkeye), he is the only one who fought in flesh and blood, with a shield. Really admired his courage and he could remain so collected even in the worst situation. Suddenly, I had this feeling that Captain America (or rather Chris Evans) has matured a whole lot, like an old veteran.

Oh boy, Thor is handsome. :D His voice…… My goodness, I nearly got “killed” because of his voice!!! I’ve seen the movie Thor, love this big guy with so much of sentiments and huge voice. :P However, to see some gods in The Avengers, felt surreal. All of the superheroes are pretty much human, to add in the gods kind of mixed up the reality and the fantasy. For a moment, I truly believed gods like Thor do exist. Hold on a second, Tony Stark said in the movie that Thor is a demigod. Is he a demigod? Or a god? I’m confused.

It’s funny that the hulk who always lost his conscious when he turned green, suddenly he became aware of who his partners are and who the enemies are. It’s funny when he punched Thor after some fight with the aliens and Thor got thrown away!!! LMAO!!! Also, how he lifted Loki and crashed him like a doll! LOL!!!

Not to forget Hawkeye and Natasha Romanoff. Never know that Scarlett Johansson can look so sexy while kicking a**es!!! Hahahaha. She really did well in the movie. Jeremy Renner is no stranger, have seen him here and there in other movies. He’s like the Legolas of LOTR in The Avengers! Minus the long blonde hair and handsome face. :P He’s got another movie coming up soon, The Bourne Legacy. Andrew is already jumping with joy wanting to watch it. Hahahaha. I find that Loki’s character was a bit  ”forceful”. It’s like they allowed him to “live” just to create the back-bone of the story, gave the avengers the reason to gather together and fight.

Generally, The Avengers was a great movie! Fun and hilarious. Every hero has their own human history that makes them what they are now. I truly believed that heroes are made. The movie was 2 hours and 20 minutes long! However, you wouldn’t feel that it was long because you would be busy following everything! For such a long movie, usually there would be situations where I would wish them to go faster or cut it short. For The Avengers, I didn’t even realise I have been sitting there for more than 2 hours! That is the POWER of The Avengers, managed to make you stick to your seat willingly for as long as the movie went. :P

You just have to watch the movie. One of the best Marvel’s movies. :) I’m gonna watch second time. Tee-hee. :D

I Stand Corrected

Back in year 2010, the first time I heard the song “Eenie Meenie”, I fell in love with it. Wanted to know about the singers singing the song. I know Sean Kingston, but it was the other one that impressed me, Justin Bieber. I thought, “wow, this boy can really sing!”

The more I listened to his songs, the more he impressed me. Especially “U Smile”, what a soothing song. Indeed, a talented young boy.

Then, I kept seeing Justin’s face on the TV. His hair-style began to annoy me.

Then, I kept hearing him on the radio with the song “Baby”. For goodness sake, the constant chanting of “baby, baby, baby oh……” really got on my nerves big time. What the…… Whenever I heard the song on the radio, I would either switch frequency or turn it off. I know it was a HIT song, but what, 3 or 4 or even more times in a day??? Give me a break!

Then, I stopped liking him. Stopped listening to any of his songs and not taking any interests in him anymore. I admired his talents and voice, but I seriously do not enjoy that sort of pop music anymore. I told Andrew, “Justin Bieber is just another new kid on the block crying for attention, shall not go far”.

When I saw he has got his own movie last year, Never Say Never, I was very sceptical over it. Thinking, just another teen flick promoting his handsomeness and awesomeness. Don’t we already know he is good looking and awesome? Never had I thought to go to the cinema to watch it, or buy the DVD or even download it. Never would I want to watch it.

Astro was showing Never Say Never the other night, oh boy. I had nothing else to watch and was too lazy to switch channel, so I let the TV on. Was sitting on the sofa Facebook-ing on my iPad and watching the show half-heartedly. It started with some videos of Justin Bieber when he was much smaller, to be honest, you can’t say NO to cute little baby like him! The baby Justin caught my attention, he was playing guitar sometimes, or hitting a face of a stool with rhythm like hitting a drum, or singing, fooling around with family……

I was impressed 20 minutes after watching it. He IS freaking gifted with music talent!!! A small boy can do drums and guitar without proper lessons! If that is not gifted/genius, what is? I was so impressed that I kept gasping and saying “walau… my goodness… aiyoooo… fuyooohhh……” I told Andrew, Justin doesn’t just some handsome boy that can sing, he has got REAL talents!!! Hats off to him. I stand corrected – Justin Bieber is NOT just another new kid on the block crying for attention, he will go far! Or I hope he can go far. Such a talented person shouldn’t be wasted, I hope he can stay in the music industry for as long as possible.

Fame is not easy, especially fame that came suddenly. From the show, I actually felt heart ache seeing him having to travel so frequent, performing, without family beside him, far away from home. A 18-year-old boy has to go through all that alone, is hard. Boys being boys, in the movie you can see he is still very much the boy-next-door that likes to play.

Justin Bieber, is just a boy with a gift. Andrew said, “so he has really got talents, not some pretty boy who only sings well”.

I’ve changed my view on him after the show. Now I admire his talents even more. Hope he would not go astray under the guidance of Usher. May him be surrounded with good people, always.

P.S.: When I heard and saw Greyson Chance, I was like, “aiyooo…… not another handsome boy”. Well, he sings good, he plays piano very well…… Somehow, I just don’t like him. Hahahahaha…… Bieber is good, at least I like him the moment I heard and saw him. LOL! :P

P.P.S.: Heard Justin’s new song yesterday, he sounds so grown-up!!! Oh ya, he’s 18 now, a total grown-up if you asked me. He’s no longer that person who sang “Baby”, am actually glad that he is now a big boy. He looks so different now. :) Think I’ll buy his new album. :) Check out his new “Boyfriend”. :P Ooppsss…… We don’t get to watch it yet HERE. ARGH!

MTV First - Justin Bieber – Boyfriend

Everything Is About The K-Pop Now

When I was in college, Korean dramas were suddenly becoming the most popular thing. Everyone was watching Korean dramas, not many was watching the Japanese dramas which were once the most popular too. The Hallyu wave they called it. I on the other hand, find that Korean dramas were too draggy. They could well be on the same crying scene for half an hour for goodness’ sake! I don’t have that patience.

The Korea I’m speaking here, is South Korea.

Few years ago, Korean’s music industry was getting more and more attention internationally. The Hallyu wave took a turn, the focus was on its music industry. It started with Rain and Dong Bang Shin Ki (东方神起, DBSK). I was admiring Rain’s dance moves and body, and loving the songs by DBSK. Andrew’s cousin is a hopeless fan of DBSK, she even went to their concert here in Malaysia before, calling one of them her “husband”. Hahaha. I wasn’t that crazy. I was merely admiring their voices and music.

Then, the Hallyu wave continues. Came the Super Junior, Big Bang, 2PM, 2AM, Wonder Girls, to the recent Girls’ Generation. Now, all eyes are on Korea’s music industry. They seem to sing the best songs, dance the best dances, have the best looks, produce the most brilliant music videos…… Especially their dance moves, other than Michael Jackson and his dance team, Korean groups are the second I’ve seen such unity in their dance moves. What makes them creep to the top in such a short period of time?

If you have seen or heard Super Junior singing live, which you can easily find them on YouTube, you’ll be amazed. They can dance, they have the looks, they have the body and the most amazing part is, they can SING very well! Trust me, all of them, can sing very well even when they’re dancing. You can’t deny just how talented they are. Andrew’s cousin is also crazy about SuJu, she has been to a few of their concerts here! Some even with VIP tickets! Envious! I love SuJu too. T__T

Have you also heard Big Bang? Each of them has very unique voice! Now I love to listen to them. Listen to their Love Song, they sing with so much passion. Their style though, is getting more and more daring in their latest music video, Fantastic Baby. It is really, errmm… scary. :P However, you can’t deny that the song is great.

A year ago, Andrew and I heard this song on radio, and we fell in love with it. Both of us were amazed that how easy it is for the tune to register in your brain and make you sing along! Honestly, not many songs have that “power” to make you sing along the first time you heard it.

You can see that I didn’t mention about the girls groups. That’s because, I only admire them dancing, but not their singing and looks. They have every rights to look pretty, but to me, they’re too plastic. Yes, at least they have the guts to do it and admit it, I admire that too. However, to me, those are not “real” anymore. And that makes them look all the same. :P Everyone somehow has the same nose and mouth. Don’t ask me to identify who is who in Girls’ Generation, I have no idea at all. :P

Then, there is this Trouble Maker. It’s not a group, it’s a song, by HyunA (from 4minutes) and Hyunseong (from Beast). This song too is very catchy. And the music video is so sexy. :P

Why is K-pop so successful? People are crazy over it even when they do not understand Korean.

You certainly don’t see Taiwan or Hong Kong’s music industry got so much of attention, not even in the good old days. Have you seen any new and young successful singer from Hong Kong lately? After the glorious 4 (Jacky Cheung, Leon Lai, Aaron Kwok and Andy Lau), is there any who is as successful as them? Eason Chan? I don’t think so.

Japan has had its glorious days too, but their music industry too is dwindling. I’ve even lost sights of their news except the tsunami and nuclear power plant. Where are their singers now? Who are the popular ones now? I have not had a clue. So sad……

Taiwan is constantly producing good singers, but their styles are way too different from K-pop. You don’t get the same kind of excitement you get from K-pop in Taiwan’s music. They can sing, but not all of them can both sing and dance well like the Koreans. Their music videos are beautiful, but not as vivid and interesting as the Koreans.

Do those Korean music producers and labels know better than the rest in how to please the public? Is it because the Korean has a strong spirit in “doing the best in everything” (look at the Korean cars)? Or simply for the reason they have more talents than others? They dare to be different? Their courage to try?

How long is this Hallyu going to last? I believe it is going to stay in the limelight for a little longer. They’re churning out more and more talented people, sometimes you wonder where do they come from and do they ever get shortage in their talent pool? What I’ve mentioned here are only a few well-known groups, there are still so many of them who are really good like 2NE1, Beast, 2AM, FT Island, SHINee, T-Ara……

You just can’t deny that their music/songs/tunes/dances are freaking good. Not forgetting some of them can act too.

Here’s another one of my favorites. :) And Choi Si-Won, is my LOVE. Wuahahahahaha. :P

Battleship 2012

Been wanting to watch Battleship the moment Andrew and I saw the trailer, it was right after we watched the movie John Carter. Surprise, surprise, Taylor Kitsch (John Carter) is the lead actor again in Battleship. It’s a weird thing. You usually don’t see these actors, but once you saw them on the big screen, then they will keep appearing throughout the year. All of a sudden every director wanted them in their movies? Or the stardom struck them? Anyway, I’m happy to see Taylor Kitsch, he’s charming. :)

Lookie, lookie, it’s another movie by Peter Berg! If you were (or still are) a fan of Chicago Hope, you will definitely know who Peter Berg is. I still remember I was once smitten by his looks. Hahahaha. Oh boy, that was like 15 years ago!!! And now he is an old man. Sigh…… I’m not that young neither. :( Peter Berg is indeed talented. Actor, producer, director and writer, I must say he did well. Hancock was a movie that took me by surprise that Peter Berg could do such a brilliant movie.

When I saw the trailer with the music and all that, I suspected that it was the same person who did the music for Transformers, and I was right. :D You just can’t miss Steve Jablonsky’s style. In fact, there is so much similarity in the music between Battleship and Transformers. There were times I felt like I was watching another version of Transformers.

The movie, was great! Andrew and I totally enjoyed it! Love the storyline, although it seemed a little too non-logical at some point, it is still no doubt a good story. What I don’t understand is, if the Secretary of Defense could contact the Vice Admiral who was also in Oahu (where all communications were believed to have been severed by the aliens), why couldn’t Samantha contact the father directly to destroy the satellite disks? Instead, she contacted the boyfriend who was also at wits end on the sea??? Also, the aliens only destroyed the roads that lead to the array, why couldn’t the military send some aircraft to investigate? I found it ridiculous that NO ONE sent any ship near the protective shield by the aliens. Every navy just waited by the shore to see if the 3 missing destroyers came back miraculously? Now you see, I really enjoyed the movie, it’s just that I don’t understand these parts where they looked too forceful. You know that “someone” did them on purpose just to make the movie more interesting. I wonder what would happen if Alex Hopper wasn’t as smart as in the movie. Hahahahaha…… Perhaps then we would see a story of aliens taking over the earth. :P

So, it was a great movie if you don’t take things seriously. Just like when you watched Transformers. If you like Transformers, you’re gonna like Battleship too. ;)

老港正传 Mr. Cinema

The Adjustment Bureau 2011

Saw this movie on TV. Thumbs up! Didn’t expect the movie to be so mind-provoking and yet entertaining.

The Adjustment Bureau, is about a group of unknown men, ensuring everything that happens in our daily life, is according to the “plan”. They’re like the “adjusters”. You shall meet this person, you shall miss the bus today, coffee spills on you in the afternoon, you missed a step…… Apparently, they’re all planned by “someone”. When something happens not according to the plan and cause the following events to run off course, someone will show up to adjust everything, so that everything will be back on the track again. There is no way you can stop the adjusters from adjusting.

However, Matt Damon could. :) With his strong will and a little help from someone on the inside, he managed to change the plan they had for him.

Love the story a lot. To a lot of people, it may seem to be a love story. To me, it is more than a love story.

People always say, “God has His plan for everyone, don’t you worry”. I am not a Christian and I am not a believer of God. I don’t believe in fate, nor a plan for all of us. I believe in everything happens for a reason and I choose my own path. Somehow, The Adjustment Bureau is also telling a story of someone who does not believe in the “plan”, dares to deviate from the “plan” and takes on his own path. Also, never give up. Although Matt Damon did give up at one point in the movie, it was for the benefit of his girlfriend.

Is the movie trying to tell people you can change what has been planned for you as long as you never give up? Are they implying those men from the adjustment bureau are angels from God? That we can outsmart them and choose our own path? That after all if we have the will, we have the power? That we will win if we fight for it?

For people who always think that it is all planned/fated and you can’t change it, think again, is it really because you can’t change it? Or you never try?

See the trailer. Love these lines from the trailer.

If you believe in free will
If you believe in chance
If you believe in choice
Fight for it.

Wrath of the Titans

With the Citibank promotion, I do not want to miss the chance of catching a movie on a weekend whenever it’s possible. RM14 for 2 tickets!!! How nice. :D

Wrath of the Titans, sequel to Clash of the Titans. Clash of the Titans was a good movie (although they twisted the original mythology), but I totally enjoyed it. When the myths put into actions, it was amazing. I was excited to see all the monsters in real, I mean in a movie, moving around rather than read them from a book with only your imaginations. I somehow looked forward to the Wrath of the Titans, hoping for the same experience.

Although a few scenes did manage to catch me by surprise, there’s only one word that I could summarise it all – average. Let’s not talk about the visual effects and all that, those are the great things that you can find in almost every movie that you can’t argue with. Let’s look at the story. It is so, so, so predictable.

So, after all, Perseus did love his father, Zeus. And Poseidon conveniently had a son that could help Perseus! Alright, I must admit, this is unpredictable! I know, I know, I can’t compare it with the original Greek mythology. Sigh…… Zeus was captured, so predictable. Before the movie could end, I already know how it was going to end.

Also, some conversations were pretty lengthy and boring. Before they could even speak, I already know what they were going to say. At some point, I even got so impatient and asked Andrew “why so long one???” I was hoping they could get on with it faster and stop nagging.

Further more, Sam Worthington looked just like any other average guy in the movie! Oh my, what happened?! :( Trust me, he was so forgettable. It was Agenor who then stole all the attention. I blame it on the characters and script.  Too many new characters to share the limelight. Even Liam Neeson appeared more often, and yes, he still looks charming. :P

Forget about going to the cinema to watch it, you can just watch it on a DVD later. If you insist to go to the cinema, just prepare yourself for the boring story, enjoy yourself with the visual effects and actions.

This Means War 2012

Wanted to watch this with Andrew, something happened at the workplace, and I made a choice to go with colleagues. Sigh…… It’s difficult to work here, and it is more difficult when you are in the HR department here. *Sighs big sigh*

So, This Means War, gotten the tickets at second row from the screen! Perfect! Just perfect for eyesight and headache. People say you can’t cure stupidity, I say you can’t cure stupidity AND stubbornness. Stupid and stubborn? No problem, you just die faster. Best of all, I nearly got killed by stupidity and stubbornness. Had a bad headache with strained neck and tired eyes at the end of the movie. SIGH!

Now, back to the movie.

The moment I know Chris Pine and Tom Hardy starred in the movie, I know at least I would have some fun looking at the handsome chap if at all the movie is bad. It turned out that the movie was great! I really had some good laugh! However, I totally didn’t enjoy the action scenes. Too near to the big screen, whenever there’s an action scene, all I saw was people flying all over the screen and I didn’t know who they are. Fortunately, the humours made up for it.

The 2 good looking young men are unquestionably, handsome and hot with that killer bod. Gosh, I was “salivating” whenever they flashed their fabulous bodies! My goodness…… Recalling them now still makes me swallow hard. LOL! Reese Witherspoon however appeared to be, old. :( No doubt she is still pretty, but she looks so much older than the men! Feel sorry for her. She looked so cute and young in Just Like Heaven. Oh well, that was like 7 years ago. Sigh……

This Means War is a good comedy. If I were to choose, I’d be torn between that two gorgeous men too. :P I may choose Tom Hardy, for his sexy manly voice and that British accent! Wuahahahahahaha……

Do watch it for a good laugh, it’s worth your time. ;) I’m going to watch second time! :D

John Carter 2012

Wanted to watch “This Means War” but couldn’t wait for the showtime, so John Carter that is.

Andrew was bad in making fun of the name, John Carter. In Hokkien, Carter sounds like “karh teyh”, meaning ‘short legged’!!! The first time he joked about it:

Andrew: John Carter must have short legs.
Me: Huh? Why? What makes you said so?
Andrew: Carter mah –> “karh teyh” ahhhh…..
Me: What the……. *LMFAO*

I was laughing so hard!

Ok, enough of the joke, back to the movie. Both of us went in to the cinema without knowing exactly what story it was, all we know was that it was some sci-fi stuff. When the teleporting stuff started and all that Barsoom and Helium, I started to ask questions. Ask who? Andrew lah of course!

I was asking how come suddenly he could walk so well, how does he control, he was running but how come not super fast, why like that, how come…… Andrew answered them all with “I don’t know”. That’s it, I know I gotta ditch all the logic sense behind and just throw myself in for some non-logical-totally-absurd-and-bizarre movie.

The movie is not too bad, love the visuals and colors. The green Tharks remind me of Avatar. Hahaha. Hmm…… Could the ideas of Avatar come from John Carter’s novels? The teleport thing, the “copy” thingy, the “original dies and copy dies” concept… Hmm…… You be the judge.

The story, my goodness…… It’s a science fiction movie, you can’t explain most of the things happened in the movie. The characters are vaguely introduced too. A lot of time wasted on unnecessary and lengthy conversations, which could well be used to explain more why the Therns exist, why Mars is chosen, why Earth has the cave, who is the goddess??? I got so confused when one of the Therns started explaining the Earth and Mars and what they do…… @__@ What was that again?????? Geez…… So lame. Was it the author or the director’s fault?

When I put all those confusion and trying-to-interpret aside, I enjoyed the movie more. Sigh…… Love the visuals of those blue ray, they are so pretty! Oh, and those gorgeous structure. There was some funny and humorous scenes too, I was laughing pretty loud a few times. Oh, Taylor Kitsch is John Carter!!! Nice body! :D There’s something unique about his face, he has both the bad-boy and cute looks. We will be seeing more of him this year as Battleship is coming soon. :D

I told Andrew, if I could be a superhero on Mars, I wouldn’t want to come back here neither! Hahahahaha……

So, is it worth to watch? It is, beautiful movie. Provided, you can shake off all your beliefs and logical sense. Just like watching Avatar, but John Carter requires more imaginations and non-science explanation.

One Day 2011

One Day,
I met you.
I loved you.

One Day,
You left me.
You hurt me.

One Day,
We met again.
We kissed again.

One Day,
I fell.
I slept.

One Day,
I would choose,
To do it all over again.

~ Ashley

One Day, a heart-wrenching movie. By the time I finished the movie, my heart ached so much.

So near yet so far. It is so painful to see that Emma had to go through so much to be with the man she loved. I just can’t agree to the idea of “love is about self-sacrificing”. On the other hand, how could you let someone who loved you so much to slip away and took ages to realise that you loved him/her too?

Although Emma did get to be with Dexter, it was a short-lived fairy tale. It is just, SAD! :(

I’m grateful, that the man I love, loves me back too. That I do not need to go through a decade of pain and wait for the man to love me back.

Life is too short to not let your loved ones know, that you love them.

Now go, “love” someone whole-heartedly. :)
